Confession and Forgiveness                                                                        ELW p. 94

Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, full of compassion and mercy, abounding in steadfast love. Amen.

Trusting God’s promise of forgiveness, let us confess our sin against God and one another. Silence for reflection and self-examination.

Eternal God our creator, in You, we live and move and have our being.  Look upon us, your children, the work of your hands.  Forgive us all our offenses, and cleanse us from proud thoughts and empty desires. By your grace draw us near to you, our refuge and our strength; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, given to us. In the mercy of almighty God, Christ died for us while we still were sinners; and for his sake,   God forgives you all your sins. Amen.

Psalm 138

1I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with | my whole heart; before the gods I will | sing your praise.

2I will bow down toward your holy temple and praise your name, because of your steadfast | love and faithfulness;  for you have glorified your name and your word a-bove all things.

3When I called, you | answered me;  you increased my | strength within me.
4All the rulers of the earth will praise | you, O Lord, when they have heard the words | of your mouth.
5They will sing of the ways | of the Lord, that great is the glory | of the Lord.
6The Lord is high, yet cares | for the lowly, perceiving the haughty | from afar.
7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you | keep me safe;
you stretch forth your hand against the fury of my enemies; your right | hand shall save me.
8You will make good your pur- | pose for me;  Lord, your steadfast love endures forever; do not abandon the works | of your hands.

Prayer of the Day

Let us pray,

You are great, O God, and greatly to be praised. You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Grant that we may believe in you, call upon you, know you, and serve you, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.

8The Lord is gracious and full | of compassion, slow to anger and abounding in | steadfast love.                                                                                                     9Lord, you are | good to all, and your compassion is over | all your works.
10All your works shall praise | you, O Lord, and your faithful | ones shall bless you.
11They shall tell of the glory | of your kingdom and speak | of your power,
12that all people may know | of your power and the glorious splendor | of your kingdom.
13Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom; your dominion endures through- | out all ages.  You, Lord, are faithful in all your words, and loving in | all your works.
14The Lord upholds all | those who fall and lifts up those who | are bowed down.

 APOSTLES’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Eternal God our creator, in you we live and move and have   our being.

God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit given to us. In the mercy of almighty God, Christ died for us while we still   were sinners; and for his sake,   God forgives you all your sins. Amen.

BLESSING OF THE FIRST FRUITS

O Lord our God, You are maker of all things.  Blessed are you!

You called Abraham and Israel to be the first fruits of your harvest. Praise to You!

You used your mighty power to save your chosen people.  Blessed are You!

They brought the first fruits of the soil to worship you.  Praise to You!

All things have been set aside for God’s purposes, we are to seek justice and care for those in need.  Blessed are You!

You gave your Son as the first fruit of salvation, his resurrection our promised inheritance.  Praise to You!

The harvest will come in the name of the Lord. AMEN!

Let us pray together,

Dear God, as we lift up our offerings to you, we give you thanks for the grace given to our ancestors in faith.  May your Holy Spirit bring us the assurance of our salvation through the offering of the Son.  Bless our First Lutheran Garden Market this summer and multiply these gifts from the earth so that we may feed the hungry both near and far.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE AUGSBURG CONFESSION

Gathering Song         Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word            ELW Hymn 517

Confession and Forgiveness

CA XI

Concerning confession it is taught that private absolution should be retained and not abolished.  However, it is not necessary to enumerate all misdeeds and sins, since it is not possible to do so.

Psalm 19:7-12

The heavens are telling the glory of God;

and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.

There is no speech, nor are there words;

their voice is not heard;

yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.

“THE ARTICLE BY WHICH THE CHURCH STANDS AND FALLS”

CA  IV

Furthermore, it is taught that we cannot obtain forgiveness of sin and righteousness before God through our merit, work, or satisfactions, but that we receive forgiveness of sin and become righteous before God out of grace for Christ’s sake through faith when we believe that Christ has suffered for us and that for his sake our sin is forgiven and righteousness and eternal life are given to us.   For God will regard and reckon this faith as righteousness in his sight, as St. Paul says in Romans 3:21-26 and 4:5.

Romans 3:21-26

Prayer of the Day

Teach us, good Lord God, to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, except that of knowing that we do your will, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

CA XIII

Concerning the use of sacraments it is taught that the sacraments are instituted not only to be signs by which people may recognize Christians outwardly, but also as signs and testimonies of God’s will toward us in order thereby to awaken and strengthen our faith.  That is why they also require faith and are rightly used when received in faith for the strengthening of faith.

Luke 22:14-22

The Lord’s Prayer
